Viagra And Influenza ‘drug cocktail’ Stops The Spread Of Malignancy With Following Medical Procedure

Viagra and influenza drug cocktail could anticipate spread of malignancy following medical procedure

A cocktail of Viagra and flu vaccine can help stop the spread of cancer cell. Hard to believe, but that is what a new groundbreaking research is suggesting.

The research which was published in OncuImunnology. According to the research, the unusual combination of Viagra and flu vaccine can actually help the body destroy the cancer cells left in the body after surgery.

Dr. Rebecca Auer, the report’s senior author, has that when it comes to removing solid tumors, surgery is highly effective. She is The Ottawa Hospital’s head of cancer research and works at the University of Ottawa as an associate professor.

She said that surgery not only removes the cancer cells but also handicaps the immune system. This allows the cancer cells left behind after surgery to not only survive but also spread to other organs.

This unorthodox treatment has been successfully implemented in a mouse model that imitates how cancer cells spread.

During this research, the researchers have recorded a 90 % percent drop metastases (secondary malignant growth) outside the lung of the mouse (primary site of cancer).

According to the research, the combination of erectile dysfunction drugs and flu vaccine can stop metastases from forming and prevent the return of Cancer after surgery.

At the moment a clinical trial involving 24 patients is being held in the Ottawa Hospital. This is first such trial in the world and the patients involved are undergoing abdominal cancer surgery. Ottawa Citizen’s Elizabeth Payne reports that one of the first volunteers is Jackie Fletcher a nurse in the Ottawa Hospital. She has undergone surgery to remove a large tumor and is presently on leave.

Payne has said that to remove the cancerous growth Fletcher had to undergo surgery. According to her, Fletcher was well aware that cancers of these types can grow back and if they did, she would need more surgery. When told of the clinical trial and the potential it showed when it came to limiting the spread of cancer, she joined immediately.

Fletcher said that she was taken back by the unusual combination of drugs and that using any of these erectile dysfunction drugs is something she always wanted to do.

This trial is to evaluate two things. First is how safe is the treatment is and second is to observe how the immune system works once it is under the effect of tadalafil, sildenafil, and Agriflu.

The trial will be divided into three parts.

  • The first part, the volunteer will be given Sildenafil five days before the surgery.
  • The second part, the volunteer with being given both flu vaccine and Sildenafil on the day of the surgery.
  • The third part, 10 days after the surgery, the volunteer will be given Sildenafil.

Based on the result it will decide which time is best for giving the drugs.

Dr. Auer said that the researchers are excited as this research is throwing up two option that can solve cancer’s big problem. They are safe and comparatively cheap. If the clinical trial proves to be successful then there will a therapy that deals with the immunity problem caused by cancer surgery.

Metastases are usually destroyed by the natural killer immune cells. But when a patient undergoes surgery for cancer, the body creates immune cells of a different kind of myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSC). These cells can hamper the function of the natural killer immune cells.

During the research, it has found that erectile dysfunction drugs like Viagra have the ability to stop the functioning of MDSC. By doing so, these drugs ensure that the natural killer immune cells are allowed to destroy cancer cells. The presence of flu vaccine helps improve the performance of these natural killer cells.

She was quick to point out that she does not support self-medication. That is cancer patients should not take erectile dysfunction drugs along with flu vaccine, just because both are easily available. If anyone needs the pills then buying it from Viagra pharmacy is the ideal choice.

Dr. Lee-Hwa Tai, who also authored the study, feels that amount of research to be done in Cancer immunotherapy is huge and doctors’ are still deciding how to use this therapy when performing surgery.
